Singular imperatives and negations in Tamil
போ - po
வா - vaa
கொடு - kodu
செய் - sey
படி - padi
பண்ணு - paNNu
In Tamil, the verb always occurs at the end of the sentence. The verb to be in English occurs between the two nouns or noun and pronoun but in Tamil is not occurs at the end of the sentence denoted by the word alla(அல்ல). There is no word necessary for "is" or to denote a positive sentence. For "not"/negation we use alla.
அது மரம் - adhu maram
அது மரம் அல்ல. adhu maram alla
அவன் வணிகன் அல்ல. avan vaNigan alla.
இவன் காவற்காரன். ivan kaavaRkaaran.
அந்த வணிகன் என் குமாரன். anda vaNigan en kumaaran.
என் குமாரன் காவற்காரன் அல்ல. en kumaaran kaavarkaaran alla
அவள் என் மகள். avaL en magaL
அவள் என் மகள் அல்ல. avaL en magaL alla.
இவள் என் மகள் அல்ல. ivaL en magaL alla.
அது அப்பம் அல்ல. adu appam alla.
அது மீன். அது பறவை அல்ல. adhu meen. adhu paravai alla.
அது என் வீடு. இது உன் வீடு. adhu en veedu. idhu un veedu.
அது உன் வீடு அல்ல. adhu un veedu alla.
